100% Wool Slouchy Beret – Adjustable Short-Brim Winter Hat

A soft, slouchy beret in 100% Australian merino wool with a short stiffened brim. The wool is worked in the manner of a felted tweed, which gives the hat a thick, substantial hand and enough body to stand up on its own — the crown piles into a slouch rather than collapsing flat.

The crown is cut in one piece and hand-sewn, with the pleating worked in rather than seamed on. It is why the shape looks full and rounded from every angle instead of flattening at the back.

A slim chain runs around the base of the crown, hand-stitched in place and colourfast in the wash. It is the detail that pulls the shape away from a plain beret and into something more retro.

The fit

The inner band adjusts by a hook-and-loop tab across roughly 53–58.5 cm, so the hat is set to your head rather than relying on stretch, and it takes in a wide range of head sizes. The tab is deliberately low-tack — it grips the band without catching your hair when you take the hat off.

Wearing it

Long merino fibres make it light for the warmth it gives — a winter hat that does not sit heavy on the head. Made for autumn and winter but wearable into spring. Wear it straight for a neat line, or push it back and to one side for the slouch the shape is cut for. The three colours are deliberately quiet, so it sits under a coat collar without competing.
